Sberbank to Sell Sochi-2014 Olympic Games Commemorative Coins
June 16, 2011, Saint Petersburg - President and Chairman of the Board of
Sberbank of Russia Herman Gref announced sale of commemorative coins
'Modern sports included in Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics Games'.
New coins will be sold within Sochi 2014 Coin Program launched by the Bank
of Russia. The campaign was launched in all Sberbank subdivisions
simultaneously. June 17, 2011, the opening day of Saint Petersburg
International Economic Forum, was selected as the launch date.
During the first day, in addition to their coins buyers will get a
certificate with the Olympic symbols. Every territorial bank of Sberbank of
Russia shall determine the first person to buy a commemorative coin, and
that person will get a registered certificate and a promotional gift.
For the first time ever coins will include an image of a sportsman and an
image of a plant corresponding to the region where the Olympic Games will
be held. The front side of coins will bear Russia's national emblem. For
sale are available four silver coins including 'Biathlon', 'Figure
Skating', 'Alpine Skiing' and 'Ice Hockey', with the par value of 3 rubles
each, and one golden coin 'Sochi Flora' with the par value of 1 thousand
rubles. Silver coins are made from 92,5 silver-copper alloy. One coin
weighs 31,1 g. Golden coin is made from 99.9 gold alloy, and weighs 155,5
g. All coins have 'proof' quality.
