Swedish Armed Forces selects Transmode flexible optical network for defence communications

Stockholm, Sweden - 15(th) March 2012 - Transmode, a global supplier of packet-
optical networking solutions, today announced that the Swedish Armed Forces will
deploy a next generation flexible optical network based on the TM-Series
Intelligent WDM (iWDM(TM)) platform. [This press release expands on the

The contract was won by Transmode in open public tender from the FMV (Försvarets
Materielverk, the Swedish Defence Material Administration). FMV is a
governmental authority whose main task is to procure goods and services for the
Swedish Armed Forces. This authority needed a new national flexible optical
high-speed network with the ability to add and drop multiple wavelengths;
Transmode's ROADM solution met this need.
The deployment of Transmode's optical networking products will give the Swedish
Armed Forces the functionality and flexibility they require in their fixed
national telecommunications network for high bandwidth traffic. The network
meets the government's requirements for the capacity, flexibility, scalability
and reliability they require today and in the future.
Transmode's solution was deemed to be the most cost-effective system to
provision a WDM communications network that is capable of handling both CWDM and
DWDM connections over a variety of fibre lengths. The system has to meet
stringent compliance criteria and be supplied with a management system.
Transmode's solution also includes the use of its ROADM technology enabling a
cost-optimised and flexible optical network for future-proof traffic design.
