THE NEW YORK TIMES AND REUTERS COLLABORATE TO DELIVER
2012 OLYMPICS NEWS AND DATA TO PUBLISHERS
Two media organizations join forces to deliver a unique multimedia offering that
will drive audience engagement
NEW YORK, April 2, 2012 - The New York Times (NYTimes.com) and Reuters
(Reuters.com) have come together to launch an exclusive product available to
online publishers for coverage of the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The
collaboration brings together expertise from two trusted news providers who each
have more than 100 years experience in covering the Olympics Games for global
audiences.
This newly-developed publishing technology delivers high quality coverage across
images, text and video with technology, tools and data displays including
modules which can be easily embedded, ready to publish results pages and more.
Additionally, real-time data results power customizable widgets and pages that
display live results including medal counts and standings, athlete statistics
and event schedules. The technology was developed by The New York Times.
The product is available at three tiers that integrate seamlessly into existing
Web sites and is available to both new and existing customers of The Times and
Reuters. In its simplest form, the product is a customizable widget that
automatically displays data like medal counts and results, athlete stats and
event schedules.
Publishers can also opt for hosted, customizable Web pages that incorporate
athlete biographies, historical data broken down by sporting event and country,
round-by-round results modules, breaking news and infographics.
The total access package includes fully customizable templates that may also
feature the publisher's own stories, slideshows and multimedia, combined with
content provided by The Times and Reuters. All three "plug-and-play" packages
feature space for sponsorships, the ability to add content in other languages
and various options for layout and design. The Web page packages also include
all of the content offered in the widget package and offer tech support provided
by The Times and Reuters.
Steven Schwartz, Global Head of Business Development, Reuters Media said, "Our
collaboration with The New York Times demonstrates our commitment to deliver
robust multimedia experiences on major news events for our customers. The
offering is particularly well suited for online outlets that are seeking ways to
present real-time, comprehensive and engaging experience to their audiences and
we deliver it with the tools to curate and monetize the content easily."
"The New York Times developed this technology for our own site, and a test
during the 2010 games confirmed that other media companies and Web site
producers could benefit from it as well," said Michael Greenspon, general
manager of The New York Times News Services Division. "With our innovative
tools, and the superior global coverage from Reuters and The New York Times,
other publishers can give their audiences access to the Olympics without having
to invest the time and resources required to create their own product."
