LUNAR Europe wins iF-Product Design Award 2009
Munich/Hanover, 22.01.2009 – Munich design agency LUNAR Europe has won the renowned
Product Design Award 2009 of the International Forum Design (iF). The international jury
awarded the prize to LUNAR Europe for the medical tablet PC ESPRIMO MA it designed for
Fujitsu Siemens Computers. The iF Award jurors thus acknowledged LUNAR Europe's design
as an outstanding achievement that enhances the user-friendliness of this versatile product.
LUNAR Europe´s work has been honoured by the iF Product Design Award 2009(firmenpresse) - With the ESPRIMO MA, LUNAR Europe succeeded in developing and adapting Fujitsu
Siemens Computers' new design language for the medical technology category. The
mobile terminal with integrated camera, RFID scanner, barcode reader and W-LAN / UMTS
module offers a multitude of functions and will lighten the everyday workload of doctors,
nurses and paramedics. However, the versatility and complexity of this medical technical
product made it a particularly challenging design assignment. Besides having to cope with
tough clinic usage and satisfy the applicable hygiene and safety requirements, the
versatile ESPRIMO MA also has to meet the ergonomic needs of a wide range of users
and usage situations. LUNAR Europe provided support throughout the extremely
demanding development process, from market research to detailed user studies and pre-
tests all the way to the design of the production-ready device. This work has now been
honoured by the iF Product Design Award 2009.
The iF Award, established in 1953, is one of the biggest and most prestigious design
awards in the world. A total of 2,808 products from 1025 entrants in 39 countries entered
this year's competition.
The award ceremony and announcement of the 50 iF Gold Awards will take place on the
first day of CeBIT; 3rd March 2009, coinciding with the opening of the iF exhibition and the
publication of the iF Yearbook Product 2009.
