EVRY: New digital solutions for cancer patients and their families and friends
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
(Oslo, 13 April 2012) EVRY, formerly EDB ErgoGroup, has joined with the
Norwegian Cancer Society and ICT Norway to invite young IT developers,
designers, and entrepreneurs to create digital apps and web pages that can help
to improve the daily lives of cancer patients and their families and friends.
There are currently few digital solutions available for Norwegian cancer
patients and their families and friends, although healthcare professionals have
access to many solutions. International experience shows that digital solutions
such as apps and web pages can play a major role not only in individual
patients' treatment, but also in helping to prevent lifestyle illnesses, and
they can also be important tools for rehabilitation.
In order to remedy this situation, the Norwegian Cancer Society, ICT Norway (the
organisation representing the Norwegian IT industry) and EVRY are challenging IT
professionals to spend a weekend of their own time to develop ideas and
prototypes for new IT solutions. The objective is to bring forward new digital
solutions that can help with some of the problems that cancer patients face in
their everyday lives, including post- diagnosis support, treatment and
rehabilitation.
"New digital solutions can help patients and their supporters with the everyday
problems that they face at such challenging times. Working with the Norwegian
Cancer Society and ICT Norway, EVRY will provide technology and expertise to
help investigate and test the proposals people put forward and so help to ensure
that new solutions will materialise. We believe that this kind of cross-
speciality collaboration will help to create new and innovative solutions",
explains Håvard Larsen, Executive Vice President at EVRY.
What is planned?
Over the course of the weekend of 13 -15 April 2012, Oslo Health Challenge and
some 30 young IT developers, designers, and entrepreneurs from across Norway
will work together to produce ideas for prototypes that can be developed into
digital solutions.
The structure of this weekend follows the model of the Startup Weekend and Jam
concept, which is something new in Norway and involves presenting specific
cases/problem areas to ICT developers. Over the course of the weekend, they will
then work together to develop ideas for ICT prototypes to address these real-
life problems. Young people and cancer is the theme for this collaboration
between the Norwegian Cancer Society, ICT Norway, Startup Weekend, Jam and EVRY.
EVRY will provide mentors and jury members, and the people with the winning
concepts will be invited to present their ideas to our technical specialists.
