Minister Finley Highlights Youth Employment at G20 Discussions
(firmenpresse) - GUADALAJARA, MEXICO -- (Marketwire) -- 05/18/12 -- The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, participated in discussions at the G20 Labour and Employment meeting in Guadalajara, Mexico, on May 17 and 18.
"In line with our government's top priority of jobs, growth and long-term prosperity, Canada's 2012 Economic Action Plan stressed that our goals require the full engagement of Canada's youth," said Minister Finley. "As always, I was pleased to meet with my G20 colleagues to exchange information on how our governments can work together to support our youth in their transition to the workforce and to create the best conditions for continued growth and employment in Canada."
Highlighted in the address was Canada's Economic Action Plan 2012, particularly its successful initiatives in: enhancing the accessibility of post-secondary education; connecting job seekers and employers through improved labour market information; reinvesting in the Youth Employment Strategy, which focuses on helping young Canadians get meaningful work experience; as well as addressing labour shortages by continuing to invest in the trades through apprenticeship grants.
Recognizing the impacts of an aging population on the labour market, Minister Finley reaffirmed the Government's commitment to supporting our youth in their successful transition from school to the workplace and to creating the best conditions for continued growth and employment in Canada.
Canada will continue to participate in future G20 discussions to ensure international collaboration on important global issues like youth and employment.
