dbh Board Member Elected to Leading Position in the European Port Community Systems Association (EPCSA)
Increased International Involvement
(PresseBox) - Stefan Engels, a member of dbh Logistics IT AG board, was elected EPCSA vicechairman at the beginning of February 2011 in Brussels.
Currently, EPCSA is drawing up a detailed white paper for the European Commission which will describe for the first time the concept which Port Community Systems have towards a projected European "single window". "The white paper will be a milestone in terms of bringing together information and the input from all of the EPCSA members", according to Engels. The paper is to be presented to the European Commission before summer recess.
Communication is an indispensible element in the smooth transport and logistics operations which drive day-to-day trade across Europe. It is one of the challenges of EPSCA to make the communication between the different systems simpler and more effective.
"EPCSA now has the chance to help the European Community save time, money and effort by demonstrating and explaining the role and benefits of Port Community Systems", says Engels. "It is an opportunity for us to support Europe in an important and necessary process of harmonisation which could create an economic area comparable to other influential free trade zones around the world", explains Engels.
EPCSA was founded at the end of 2010. It was the first time that leading European Port Community Systems had co-operated in this way. In addition to dbh, the five founding members were Maritime Cargo Processing, Portbase, PORTIC and SOGET. One of its first meetings was attended by delegates from the EC's Directorate General of Mobility and Traffic (DG Move), who learned about the pivotal role played by Port Community Systems in trade and transport.
