- First order received for hetero-junction technology
- New products successfully launched onto market
- New orders reach EUR 347 million

Hohenstein-Ernstthal, 22 September 2010 - Roth&Rau AG is selling the
first mass production system based on hetero-junction technology to an
American customer. This system is due for delivery in the second quarter of
2011. At its Roth&Rau Switzerland Technology Centre, Roth&Rau has
already been working for more than two years now on developing solar cells
based on hetero-junction technology that offer efficiency potential of more
than 20 % while ensuring favorable manufacturing costs. At the EU PVSEC
European Solar Conference held in Valencia at the beginning of September,
Roth&Rau already presented results of 21 % cell efficiency achieved at
the Swiss Technology Centre. Roth&Rau has thus underlined the rapid
progress made in development and the superb potential harbored by
hetero-junction technology. Roth&Rau is currently the only equipment
manufacturer to offer production systems for this highly promising cell
technology.

The market launch of the new-generation SiNA antireflective coating system,
offering numerous technical innovations and cost benefits compared with the
previous model, has also gone very well. Systems with a total capacity of
1.85 GWp have been sold since the beginning of the year and are due for
delivery by the end of the first quarter of 2011. The company has also
received letters of intent for further SiNA systems with total capacity of
1.45 GWp due for delivery in the second quarter of 2011. Moreover, orders
on hand also include further capacity totalling 3 GWp in the form of
old-generation SiNA systems and the DEP antireflective coating system

offered by Roth&Rau's OTB Solar subsidiary. These too are scheduled for
delivery by the end of the first quarter of 2011. Also in production are
the first serial systems for the new product lines CAMiNi (firing furnaces)
and CALiPSO (diffusion furnaces). These are to be deployed in current
turnkey projects in particular, significantly increasing Roth&Rau's
proprietary share of products in its turnkey production lines.

'The record volume of new orders received in recent months provides clear
evidence that by developing products such as the new-generation SiNA and
diversifying our market position we have managed to further expand our
market position,' commented Dr. Dietmar Roth, CEO of Roth&Rau AG. 'Not
only that, in recent years we have focused even more closely on developing
new, more efficient solar cells and deliberately expanded our expertise in
this area. The placing of the first order for hetero-junction technology
represents a major milestone in the effective marketing of this technology,
especially as part of future turnkey production lines.' Roth&Rau has been
successfully selling turnkey lines for use in the manufacture of
crystalline silicon solar cells since 2006 already and is now one of the
world's leading providers in this field.

'As of 10 September 2010, we had received new orders worth EUR 347 million
in total,' added company CFO Carsten Bovenschen. 'We owe this not least to
the consistently high investments we have made in research and development.
The first sale of systems based on our new forward-looking hetero-junction
technology shows very clearly that substantial investment in R&D is the
only way to achieve grid parity.'
