Geneva, 15 November 2010. Urs Ryf, Chief Operating Officer (COO) and member of
the Board of Management at skyguide, is taking a sabbatical for several months
and will therefore be stepping down from his position on 1 August 2011. However,
skyguide will retain his services. The Board of Management is confident that Urs
Ryf will be willing to take new responsibilities upon his return.
After a total of 11 years working for the Swiss air navigation service provider
skyguide, Urs Ryf has made the decision to take a sabbatical. As an absence of
several months is difficult to reconcile with his highly responsible position,
Ryf has chosen to step down as COO from 1 August 2011. During his sabbatical,
Ryf plans to spend more time with his family.
Daniel Weder, skyguide CEO: «On the one hand, I am pleased for Urs Ryf, who will
indulge in this well-deserved sabbatical. On the other hand, his stepping down
as COO results in an important change for us». Urs Ryf has a degree in business
administration and was formerly a military pilot with the Swiss Air Force. He
joined skyguide in 2000 and was largely responsible for integrating the civil
and military air navigation services. In 2004 he became head of the operational
project and planning support department, before joining skyguide's Board of
Management as the new Chief Operating Officerin 2006. In his various functions,
Urs Ryf made a major contribution to improving the safety culture and processes
within the organisation. Under his leadership the capacity of Swiss airspace has
been significantly increased, which has further improved the punctuality of the
flights controlled by skyguide.
Daniel Weder, CEO of skyguide: «On behalf of the Board of Directors and the
Board of Management, I would like to thank Urs Ryf for his outstanding work as
COO. It is in our interest to ensure that he stays within the company, because
he is an excellent manager with a long experience in the aviation field. I am
confident that Urs Ryf will be willing to take new responsibilities upon his
return.»
