Gilching / Munich, March 9(th) 2011. The Management Board of Acazis AG announces
that the Ethiopian subsidiary, Acazis Ethiopia Plc, has begun with the planting
of Castor.
After two years of restructuring and consolidation Acazis AG started in Ethiopia
to cultivate about 500 hectares of Castor. The seed is a hybrid seed which was
cultivated in India.
As a first step, its Ethiopian subsidiary is planting the new seeds in is own
areas. In a second step, a further 500 hectares will be planted by mid-April
2011. Thus, in October 2011, around 1,000 hectares of castor beans will be
harvested.
CEO Patrick Bigger: "We are pleased and proud to have restructured the company
and consolidated so as to begin the cultivation of castor. We expect from the
cultivated 1,000 hectares to harvest approximately 2,000 tons of castor beans.
The harvest will be sold on the world market. Since March 2010 the price per
metric tonne of castor beans has increased from US$ 600 to currently
approximately US$ 1,050. In the coming years we intend to increase our growing
area and output substantially."
