Facts:
About Farstad Shipping Offshore Simulation Centre
In 2004 Farstad Shipping and Rolls Royce Marine took initiative towards Aalesund
University College (AAUC) for developing a training centre for demanding
offshore operations. The initiative resulted in the foundation of Offshore
Simulator Centre AS (OSC) in Aalesund. OSC is a world leader in 3D
visualization, and provides the technology to the new centre in Perth. OSC is
owned by Farstad Shipping, Rolls-Royce Marine, AAUC and MARINTEK in Trondheim.
The close cooperation between OSC and its owners has resulted in an advanced
concept that provides realistic training under controlled conditions.

Farstad Shipping Offshore Simulation Centre in Perth is developed through
rewarding collaboration with AAUC, and expertise from Norway will be transferred
to the instructors at the new centre in Perth. Different expertise from Farstad
Shipping, AAUC and OSC is combined into a coherent training program to ensure a
unique learning experience. All instructors and courses at the centre meet the
requirements for international certification. At start-up the centre will have
8 employees.

The shipping industry faces rapid technological development and increasingly
extreme operations require an active focus on safety and as a result, the safety
requirements both on land and sea are becoming tougher. The simulators therefore
use advanced simulation and visualization technology and provide comprehensive
training in the particularly demanding offshore operations. The simulators
operate in real time, and whole crews can practice interaction in complex
situations and hence get a realistic picture of the situation on deck, on the
bridge and in the machine.

The simulation centre includes two complete anchor handling and platform supply
vessel simulators, a crane simulator, a winch simulator, an engine room
simulator and a complete operation centre for dynamic positioning (DP). Each of
the anchor handling simulators consists of a bridge containing all relevant
technical systems, handling systems, mapping, navigation, radar, radio
communications and winch system control.
