Record attendance: more than 1700 visitors came to the fourth year of the Industriebrachenumgestaltung 2009 (IBUg)

From 28 to 30 August more than 1400 visitors came to the former VEB Leuchtenbau in Meerane, situated in Western Saxony, to visit the halls transformed by graffiti, installations and street art. The big Saturday night party attracted another 300 people. With the event weekend from 28 to 30 August the two-week-creative phase with more than 35 artists from six nations ran out.
Since 15 August the artists had been working on the transformation of the fivestoried building. In addition to renowned German artists like Bomber, Loomit, Simo, Tasek and others, also artists from Switzerland (Chromeo, Koala), England (Faunagraphic), the Netherlands (Fons and Mo-Can) and Italy (Wens, Reser, Sirtwo) took part. Even the JNJ Crew, artists from Korea who are currently on the road with Mogi, were there. Without favored topics and equipped with cans and colours the artists transformed the building partly also together. They developed works of art that included surrounding areas and worked with materials they found in the industrial wasteland. Alongside street art and graffiti artworks they also created installations.

Beginning on Friday the visitors were offered a varied synthesis of the arts, in which they could explore large-size works as well as many small details. In mostly sunny weather 1400 people at all ages visited the former VEB Leuchtenbau in Meerane. Sometimes they could look over the artists' shoulder and watch the emergence of this special form of art. They could buy smaller works than those on the walls of the industrial wasteland in the gallery on all three days. The big IBUg afterhour party with three floors took place on Saturday night.

Even in the fourth year the IBUg continued to grow, not only with regard to the number of visitors and artists. This has only been possible through the generous support of the city of Meerane, the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony, Motip Dupli Group and Meerane public utility. The IBUg 2009 could give the artists freedom for their art and present the results to a diversified and interested public.
