About Friedrich Vollmer GmbH In 1963 Vollmer developed the world"s first thickness gauge capable of measuring the thickness of running strip in a cold rolling mill with an accuracy of some µm. The same year marked the beginnings of the company"s history. Vollmer was also a pioneer in realizing solutions for shape measurements on running strip. Over the years, Vollmer developed different types of thickness gauges for strip (contact, isotopic and x-ray), roll measuring devices and shapemeters for strip.
