Oracle Education Foundation Hosts 100 Teachers at Project Learning Institute in Egypt
Training Event Supports First Lady?s "Developing Schools? Initiative
Cairo, Egypt ? January 19, 2010
News Facts
- The Oracle Education Foundation (OEF) recently held a Project Learning Institute for more than 100 teachers from the First Lady Suzanne Mubarak?s "Developing Schools? Initiative at the Mubarak City Training Development Centre in Cairo.
- The Project Learning Institute is a professional development program that trains teachers on how to integrate technology, project learning, and 21st century skills development into their classroom curricula.
- The course uses OEF's online learning platform, ThinkQuest, to showcase exceptional project-learning examples and help teachers produce projects as a part of their training experience.
- Participating teachers represented districts in Cairo, El Salam, Al Marg, Al Zaitoun, and Giza. These teachers completed six weeks of online preparation prior to attending the live training event in Cairo.
- In addition to benefiting teachers and students within the "Developing Schools? Initiative, the Project Learning Institute supports Egypt?s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) and Ministry of Education (MOE) in their objective to adopt project learning in classrooms across the country.
- To date, over 700 teachers have attended Project Learning Institutes in Brazil, Egypt, India, Romania, Singapore, South Africa, and the United States.
- ThinkQuest currently supports 405,000 students and teachers in 43 countries, including more than 3,000 students and teachers in Egypt.
- "The Project Learning Institute helps teachers bring the power of technology and project learning into their classrooms," said Clare Dolan, Vice President, Oracle Corporate Citizenship. "By participating in this intensive training, teachers learn how to prepare their students for success in the 21st century.?
- "The Egyptian Project Learning Institute was conducted under the sponsorship of Her Excellency Mrs. Suzan Mubarak, First Lady of Egypt. This training helped teachers learn how to develop educational projects on the ThinkQuest platform, so they can initiate a technology-supported, project-learning approach in all our schools,? said Dr. Salah Elewa, Technology Development Centers Director.
- "Egypt?s Ministry of Education and Ministry of Communication and Information Technology emphasize learner-centered teaching and project-based learning. The Project Learning Institute has now helped over 100 teachers develop the skills required to support these objectives in the classroom,? said Mrs. Amani El Far, Project Manager, Ministry of Education.
- "The Hundred Schools Project sponsored by Her Excellency the First Lady of Egypt is an inspiring model for the use of ICT in education. This model has reinstated the school as not only a source of basic knowledge, but also a centre for community engagement. We were pleased to work with the Oracle Education Foundation to train 100 teachers and help them integrate 21st century skills development into their curricula," said Dr. Hoda Baraka, First Deputy Minister, Ministry of Communications Information Technology.
