Cerner Corporation and Hospital de Denia, part of the Marina Salud health care
organization in Valencia, Spain, have been recognized for their combined
commitment to improving the way health care is delivered in Europe. Hospital de
Denia is the first hospital in Spain, and among the first in Europe, to receive
Stage 6 certification on the HIMSS Analytics European EMR Adoption Model
(EMRAM), which provides both a guide and leadership model for IT adoption in
health care. Hospital de Denia is one of seven European hospitals to achieve
this, and is Cerner's first client outside North America to reach this
distinction.

Key to their recognition, Hospital de Denia's Cerner electronic health record
(EHR) system has the ability to integrate each patient's care encounters with
their associated assessments, surgical operations, medication, discharges and
outpatient visits. Additionally, this information is accessible via a secure
Web portal or through secure locations throughout the hospital and in the 11
offices that make up the Denia Department of Health health care network.
Besides the integration capacity of the EHR, Hospital de Denia's system
presents further advantages recognized by HIMSS:
-- A request manager combining health care needs with scheduled appointments
-- The capacity to make recommendations to providers to create, adapt, or
modify care plans, continuous clinical pathways and clinical protocols
based on the latest scientific evidence
-- A cross-departmental view that allows for correct and efficient assignment
of available resources like rooms, physicians and equipment, among others
-- A single interactive screen displaying all relevant information for the
clinician
Hospital de Denia has been nominated for Stage 7 validation later this year.
