Eni and Rosneft Sign Declaration on Protection of the Environment and Biodiversity for their oil gas activities in Russia.
The partners have agreed to conduct regular monitoring of the natural landscape and seas of the Arctic region, and strengthen international cooperation taking into account the Arctic Environmental Protection Strategy.
Saint Petersburg, 21 June 2013 - Rosneft and Eni signed a Declaration on Protection of the Environment and Biodiversity for Oil and Gas Exploration and Development on the Russian Continental Shelf today at the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum. The companies? objective is the continuous improvement of technologies and operating procedures for the exploration and development of Arctic mineral resources and Eni and Rosneft have reiterated their commitment to ensure the sustainable development of the Arctic region, including minimizing the impact on indigenous population and climate. The companies affirm their commitment to the preservation of the biological diversity of the Arctic region, following the provisions set forth in the Convention on Biological Diversity and the biodiversity workshop of the global oil and gas industry group for environmental and social issues, the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association. The partners have agreed to conduct regular monitoring of the natural landscape and seas of the Arctic region, and strengthen international cooperation taking into account the Arctic Environmental Protection Strategy. The companies will also discuss opportunities to establish a Coordination Center with the Russian space agency Roscosmos, the Russian Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Russian Federation for Civil Defense, Emergencies and elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters.
