Hunt Valley Animal Hospital Partners With Poodle Rescue Center

(firmenpresse) - HUNT VALLEY, MD -- (Marketwire) -- 01/08/12 -- A local animal vet clinic has joined forces with a pet rescue organization to aid animals waiting to find a loving home. has initiated a partnership with Mid-Atlantic Poodle Rescue (MAPR), a non-profit organization dedicated to finding new families for poodles throughout Maryland and Virginia. "We wish to offer whatever aid and support we can to this worthy cause," says Dr. Allan Frank, owner of .
The has extended its medical, boarding and grooming services to help ensure the poodles' health during their stay with . "We make sure they receive vaccinations, we them and treat any illnesses they may be suffering from if needed," explains Dr. Frank. "We are also happy to refer our clients to the organization if they are looking for a wonderful new family pet and give advice on proper care. Poodles are indoor dogs, even though they enjoy running around in the great outdoors, so they need an environment that can accommodate them. They are also very intelligent and sociable, but these qualities require owners who will devote the proper attention to them and give them fun, challenging things to do."
MAPR requires prospective adopters to fill out applications with such details as available living space and fencing, personal references and other factors that would affect the dog's health and happiness in its new abode. It also sends a representative to visit each home before adoption can be approved. Owners who find that they cannot continue to keep their poodle must provide as much information as possible about the animal's health history, disposition and socialization so that the organization can fully disclose this information to people who might wish to adopt it.
"The health data is extremely important because it helps us determine what course of preventative care or treatment we need to implement," says the Dr. Frank. "MAPR asks owners about the status of the pet's rabies vaccinations, heartworm history or preventative medication and general health. If we see that some detail or other has been neglected, such as or , a can correct that situation as soon as possible. Our can also perform to check the dog's fur, nails and skin for potential problems. Poodles in particular need regular grooming because their fur becomes densely matted without proper care."
The at the clinic have noted that poodles can also face more complex health challenges, making the clinic's work with MAPR even more valuable for pets and caregivers alike. "For example, standard poodles are commonly afflicted with a disorder called gastric dilation volvulus, a potentially fatal twisting of the stomach," notes Dr. Frank. "We perform a procedure called that can correct this disorder. Our goal is to help these poodles enjoy a long, happy life with their new owners."
