The Paragon Report Provides Equity Research on Pacific Ethanol & BioFuel Energy

(firmenpresse) - NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 01/09/12 -- As 2011 came to a close, two long-running federal subsidy programs intended to aid U.S. producers of ethanol also ended. One program placed a 54-cent-per-gal tariff on imported ethanol and the other gave a 45-cent-per-gal tax credit to U.S. oil companies that purchased and blended ethanol with gasoline. Ethanol stocks continue to perform well, however, with help from federal measures such as the Renewable Fuel Standard. The Paragon Report examines the outlook for companies in the Ethanol Industry and provides investment research on Pacific Ethanol Corporation (NASDAQ: PEIX) & BioFuel Energy Corporation (NASDAQ: BIOF). Access to the full company reports can be found at:

The Renewable Fuel Standard requires an increasing amount of renewable fuels such as ethanol be blended into transportation fuel -- from 9 million gallons in 2008 to 36 billion gallons in 2022. "We are legally obligated to make ethanol," says Reagan Howell of Hereford Renewable Energy. "It is the only renewable fuel that is commercially viable right now."

Corn is presently the key ingredient for ethanol plants. The expiration of the blender's tax credit should bring only a modest decrease in the price of corn, explains Greg Noble, chief operating officer of the Indiana Soybean Alliance, Indiana Corn Marketing Council and Indiana Corn Growers Association.

Last month PEIX closed its $4.6 million purchase of an additional 7% ownership interest in New PE Holdco.

BioFuel Energy Corp. engages in the manufacture and sale of ethanol and its co-products in the United States. The company offers dried and wet distillers grains with solubles, and carbon dioxide.
