Mario Vilardi, DMD, Esteemed Periodontist and Laser Researcher, Adopts LANAP(R) Protocol
The LANAP Protocol Continues to Be Adopted by Top-Tier, Evidenced-Based Clinicians Worldwide as the Preferred Laser Periodontitis Treatment

(firmenpresse) - CERRITOS, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/12/12 -- is pleased to announce Mario Vilardi, DMD, has completed Laser BootCamp®, the initial three days of instruction in the LANAP® training continuum. Dr. Vilardi is a board certified Diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontology, and the founder of magazine.
Dr. Vilardi along with Dr. Steven Gold, now retired, published pioneering, peer-reviewed research(1) demonstrating specific properties of the Nd-YAG laser could selectively remove diseased tissue from underlying fibrous collagen tissue without damaging the fibrous tissue. This research, early in the history of Nd:YAG laser dentistry, showed the safe, efficacious use of the pulsed Nd:YAG laser fiber in periodontal pockets, and gave foundation for the LANAP® protocol, a that uses a free-running pulsed Nd:YAG laser -- the PerioLase® MVP-7™. This protocol was developed by clinicians for clinicians as a treatment patients would accept and that works! The protocol's strict operating parameters ensure in the effective treatment of gum disease.
Robert H. Gregg, DDS, co-developer of the LANAP protocol and the PerioLase MVP-7 Nd:YAG laser, and Program Director at the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry commented, "In the 21 years I have known Dr. Vilardi, I have valued his contributions to laser dentistry and appreciated his discerning and critical mind. That he now deems the LANAP protocol to have sufficient evidence to incorporate into his periodontal practice underscores the breadth and depth of the LANAP protocol's evidenced-based results and ongoing commitment to university-based research."
The LANAP protocol continues to be adopted by top-tier clinicians as the preferred laser gum surgery based on the accumulating body of scientific evidence, clinical results of periodontist peers, and patient acceptance rates.
Gum disease is a chronic bacterial infection that, left untreated, can lead to tooth loss and has been closely linked to major health problems including heart disease, strokes, pre-term and still-born births, as well as certain cancers. It is often painless and can go undetected or ignored until severe gum and bone destruction catches the individual's attention. Even when detected, patients often choose not to undergo traditional cut-and-sew surgery due to fear, poor esthetic outcomes and associated pain.
The Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry is a non-profit educational and research center dedicated to providing evidence-based clinical training in advanced laser dentistry therapies. Formed in 1999 by dentists Robert H. Gregg II and Delwin K. McCarthy, the IALD is both ADA CERP and AGD PACE accredited, and is nationally recognized for its continuing education (CE) programs. With more than 20 certified instructors who train dental professionals in laser dentistry techniques including the LANAP® protocol, the IALD aims to reach more underserved patients with gum disease who have avoided therapy out of fear. To that end, the organization provides free treatment to qualified patients who can benefit from the no-cut, no-sew, no-fear LANAP® protocol -- providing about $750,000 in free dental services each year. The IALD's ultimate goal is for the percentage of patients seeking treatment for periodontitis to reach the percentage of patients seeking general dental care. For more information, please visit .
