Many shops, bars and restaurants in London will be participating in the celebrations, however the main events will be held in Leicester Square, Trafalgar Square and most importantly, Chinatown. Although the lunar calendar means the official date of Chinese New Year 2012 falls on 23rd January 2012, London's main celebrations will take place the following weekend. Sunday 29th January sees a spectacular parade through Chinatown in the morning and at noon Trafalgar Square hosts a ceremony, showcasing over 100 performers and traditional dragon and lion dances. The famous Chen Brothers, who hold the Guinness World Record for the highest pole jump in the flying lion dance, will also be making a special appearance. To close the celebrations a stunning fireworks display will take place.

The festivities in the city will continue well into February, with special menus in delicious eateries, one off cinema screenings, and celebratory days at museums all taking place. The National Maritime Museum will host a day of workshops, cultural music and special events for all the family on February 18th, to celebrate Chinese New Year and BFI Southbank is hosting a cinema event from February 4th - 25th, where fans of world cinema will be able to enjoy top cultural films.
