(firmenpresse) - Ettlingen November 14th, 2008 – The announced delay of Oracle Fusion Applications to 2010 isn’t as surprising to a lot of users as it may seem at first glance. Thanks to very close contacts between user groups, implementation partners, and Oracle this development was already signalized in the run-up. A reason for this delay is, among others, the guarantee promises (Life Time Support and Apps Unlimited), which Oracle gives for current applications. A lot of resources are tied up for further development of current product lines available on the market.

This becomes very clear with the example of the latest version of Oracle’s E-Business Suite, the comprehensive business software. With release 12 a product was made available, where almost all functional areas were improved. In addition bought-in applications, such as Demantra for planning, G-Log Transportation Management and others have been integrated with the E-Business Suite. These activities of course tie up resources, however with benefits for customers. Oracle E-Business Suite users, who want to wait first and then migrate directly onto Fusion Applications have the possibility already with release 12 to use many new functionalities. Therefore it is recommended to intensively examine, whether a migration or an update to release 12 is sensible. The situation is similar for the sister application Siebel and PeopleSoft.

Based on the occurred delay a concrete schedule on further development concerning Fusion Applications is missing at the time and should be demanded unconditionally. This task is being assumed by the German Oracle User Group (Deutschen Oracle Anwendergruppe (DOAG)).

For customers Fusion Applications implies an Oracle IT-Infrastructure with Service-oriented Architecture and Grid Computing – features that are already implemented and available in Fusion Middleware and the data base. With the decision for Oracle the user actually betakes his self into dependency on the producer to a certain degree. This however should be done consciously, since not only a very well integrated information system platform is offered, but more importantly investment security. Beyond that DOAG bundles the interests and requirements of users and therefore acts as mouthpiece for Oracle customers.
