New Simplified Fee Structure for Runtime Services Allows Organizations Real-Time Scalability, Cuts the Costs Associated With Running Cloud-Based Java Applications

(firmenpresse) - WOBURN, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/08/12 -- , the Java Platform as a Service (PaaS) innovation leader, today unveiled new lower pricing and a simplified fee structure for its runtime services, RUN(at)cloud. CloudBees' runtime services allow developers to quickly and easily deploy applications to the cloud without the hassles of procuring and maintaining application infrastructure or depending on their DevOps or IT organization to do so. The new pricing structure enables CloudBees PaaS customers to use the runtime services they need at a price that makes running Java applications in the cloud a no-brainer. With the new pricing, existing customers will reduce the cost of running Java applications by as much as 62 percent, getting the rich functionality and supporting infrastructure offered within the CloudBees Platform while paying less than they would pay for access to a hosted provider's Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offering, alone.

The simplified fee structure further fuels the explosive adoption of PaaS within the marketplace by removing price as an issue. With the CloudBees Platform, customers gain traditional application server functionality in the cloud without the ongoing maintenance associated with servers and middleware. Runtime services from CloudBees automatically provide load balancing, scalability and high availability for Java web applications -- including deep support for Java EE -- as well as any JVM-based applications written in languages such as Scala, Ruby, Grails, Spring and others. RUN(at)cloud customers can leverage the cloud to easily scale resources up and down as needed, only paying for resources actually consumed.

"With PaaS adoption accelerating, CloudBees is in a unique position to deliver a full-service production platform at an even lower cost, thanks to our technology investment and scale, and the operational efficiency they enable," said Steven G. Harris, senior vice president of products, CloudBees. "Strategically, this move demonstrates our commitment to our customers -- while challenging those still apprehensive about the switch from traditional in-house development and deployment, to development and deployment in the cloud. Our platform services provide the fastest, easiest and most cost-effective way to build, run and manage applications. Anyone not developing and deploying applications in the cloud today really needs to ask themselves, 'Why not?'"

With the , CloudBees provides customers the opportunity to choose from two pricing models:

Base, CloudBees' basic entry-level subscription, providing services and infrastructure at less than managed provider infrastructure costs, alone. At the pricing provided in the Base subscription, a customer can run an application on the CloudBees platform for as little as US $9.50/month or $114/year. Going directly to Amazon Web Services, that same infrastructure would cost them $60/month or $720/year (m1.small machine).

Enterprise, an on-demand service subscription that includes access to CloudBees' expert technical support and allows organzations to choose from a list of options including auto-scaling, CNAME and session store, all at a lower price point than an organization could get by procuring infrastructure services, alone ().

CloudBees also offers a freemium pricing model for open source projects and smaller applications.

The new runtime services pricing parallels the prior announcement CloudBees made about lower costs for its development services. In December, CloudBees a new pricing structure for DEV(at)cloud, its Jenkins in the Cloud development services. Again, the lower pricing means customers can make use of CloudBees development services and their rich functionality at a lower cost than they would pay for just hosted IaaS services ().

With thousands of applications already deployed on the CloudBees RUN(at)cloud platform, companies continue to write, deploy and manage software applications while still using the same tools they always have, they are just using them in the cloud at a lower cost and without the ongoing infrastructure maintenance hassles.
