(firmenpresse) - EDMONTON, ALBERTA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/08/12 -- In April of 1912, the Titanic sailed from Southampton on its first trip, with 2,200 passengers and crew onboard. Just four days into its journey, the Titanic collided with an iceberg and sank. 1500 people died. 700 survived.

might be a long way from Southhampton. Nonetheless, the story of the Titanic has found a home of great reverence of Alberta's capital city... with , on now until February 20 at .

"With 2012 being the Centennial anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, it is a very poignant moment in the history of this great Ship," says Donalda DaSilva Pelton, Acting Manager, Marketing & Communication for TELUS World of Science. "Our guests are really enjoying being able to be part of this."

Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition is a display of almost 200 real artifacts that have been recovered from nearly four kilometres below the ocean. Among them, you'll find perfume from a maker who was travelling to New York to sell his samples, china etched with the logo elite White Star Line, delicate pieces of jewellery, the Titanic's whistle, and much more.

"Every artifact in the exhibition tells a story, whether the story is about the Ship or one of the people who were traveling on board Titanic for her fateful maiden voyage," says DaSilva Pelton. "It is truly impossible to experience this exhibition and not leave feeling a connection to the story."

Making this exhibition all the more real-to-life is its multi-media component. Throughout the exhibition, there are video screens that depict various historical scenes, including a stunning simulation of how the Titanic struck the iceberg and sank. There is also an audio tour available to offer visitors with additional commentary and information about the exhibition.

For those who are curious about exactly how much work went into putting this exhibition together, there is also a video that recounts some of the expeditions to the wreck site of the Titanic. It shows how some of these magnificent artifacts were recovered.

There is also an interactive element to . "Every visitor receives a replica boarding pass of an actual passenger that was traveling on the Ship," explains DaSilva Pelton. "This boarding pass has the name, class of service, and a little information about a passenger. The idea is that you essentially assume the identity of this passenger as you travel through the Exhibition."

The final gallery of the exhibition, the Memorial Gallery, is the most breathtaking. "The Ship's manifest is printed on the wall, broken down between First, Second and Third Class and Crew, survived and perished," DaSilva Pelton says. "You take your boarding pass and find out the fate of your passenger and those you were traveling with."

Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition is presented by RMS Titanic Inc. and Premier Exhibitions, based in Atlanta, Georgia. It's run at the continues until February 20.

Now, and long after the exhibition is gone, TELUS World of Science continues to honour the Centennial anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic with the screening of the movie Titanic in the IMAX Theatre. This breathtaking IMAX feature is a non-fiction drama that documents the expedition to the wreck of the Titanic in 1991. The closing of this film will coincide with the anniversary of the Titanic's sinking on April 15, 2012.
