Dr. Katz is founding director of Yale University's Prevention Research Center, established in 1998 as a clinical research laboratory to avert chronic disease. Since then he has secured nearly $35 million in research funding for numerous community and clinical trials. Recognized three times by the Consumers Research Council of America as one of the nation's top physicians in Preventive Medicine, Dr. Katz was nominated for the position of U.S. Surgeon General in 2009 by the American College of Physicians, the American College of Preventive Medicine, and the Center for Science in the Public Interest, among others. He is the principal inventor of the Overall Nutritional Quality Index (patents pending) utilized in the NuVal nutrition guidance program, currently offered in over 1,500 supermarkets throughout the United States.
