Secutor's report primarily focuses on the company's joint venture with HudBay
(TSX:HBM) on the 917 hectare Reed Copper deposit, located approximately 80
kilometres southwest of Snow Lake, Manitoba, a town with an active mining
history of base and precious metals.
HudBay has a 70% interest, with VMS Ventures holding the balance of 30%. HudBay
is the operator and is responsible for the full financing of VMS Ventures'
proportionate share of the development costs, which VMS will repay solely from
its share of the cash flow that the project generates.
The project has an Indicated resource of 2.55 million tonnes at 4.52% copper,
and an Inferred resource of 170,000 tonnes at 4.26% copper. Production is
expected to begin by late 2013 and should have good leverage to copper prices
given the deposit's high grade.
According to Secutor's report, the project should produce 1,300 tonnes per day,
have a mine life of 5.5 years, and a payback of 3 years, using a $2.78 price for
copper.
Highway 39 runs through both the Reed Lake property and HudBay's Flin Flon
concentrator, 120 kilometres away, where the ore will be processed.
VMS and HudBay also signed option agreements on four of the properties
surrounding the joint venture. With the planned closure of Trout Lake and Chisel
North this year, HudBay is actively investing in exploration and holds interests
with early-stage companies including VMS Ventures at 14%, Augusta Resources at
14%, and Aquila Resources at 15%.
VMS is also exploring another two properties on its own in the Reed Lake area
that also show positive signs for VMS type mineralization. Despite their small
size, usually 2.7 to 7.1 million tonnes, VMS-type deposits are attractive
exploration targets. They are generally high-grade, polymetallic, and can be
effectively targeted by a combination of geological, geophysical, and
geochemical methods.
Additionally, VMS owns 45% of North American Nickel (TSXV:NAN), which is
capitalized at close to $9 million.
The shares currently trade at $0.37 and with close to 124 million shares
outstanding, the company is capitalized at approximately $46 million.
