CopperLicht Released - new 3D Engine completely implemented in JavaScript
Ambiera announces the release of the first alpha version of CopperLicht, a new free 3D engine which has been implemented completely in JavaScript and runs entirely in the browser, using WebGL.
CopperLicht rendering a full Quake 3 level in Firefox/MineField(firmenpresse) - Vienna, Austria - Feb 08 2010 - Ambiera announces the release of the first alpha version of CopperLicht, a new free 3D engine which has been implemented completely in JavaScript and runs entirely in the browser, using WebGL (a new technology which is supposed to be supported in the next generation of web browsers) to render hardware accelerated 3d graphics.
With CopperLicht it is possible to create games and 3d applications in the webbrowser without any plugin, using only JavaScript.
CopperLicht is highly optimized and able to render and animate even huge 3d scenes. On the 3d engine's website there is a demo which shows a full Quake 3 level rendered at playable speed. Since WebGL is a pretty new technology, currently not all browsers support WebGL and users still need to use a special webbrowser with enabled WebGL to view the demo (FireFox MineField, Chrome).
CopperLicht also comes with a full 3D world editor named CopperCube which imports 17 different 3D file formats, so it is very easy to create own 3d applications, from 3D demos over camera flights and scientific visualizations to full 3d games.
CopperLicht is free to be used. There is an extensive documentation available which includes several tutorials to show how it works.
