(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 02/29/12 -- Some popular myths about flying are busted in a unique snapshot of UK aviation created by Direct Travel Insurance.

The fascinating also reveals the most popular destinations, the busiest airports and the airlines with the longest delays.

There are amazing facts and plenty of useful information presented in very readable form by the holiday insurance experts at Direct Travel Insurance.

Myths busted include the misconception that passengers are unlikely to survive a plane crash. In fact, 95.7% of travellers involved in an air crash make it out alive - and you are more likely to die from a bee sting.

Another mistaken belief is that every drink on a plane is equivalent to three on the ground. It's also wrong to think that the recycled air on planes spreads germs. Not true, the infographic shows.

Top destinations for passengers leaving British airports are revealed to be Spain followed by the USA. Germany comes has a surprise third, ahead of countries that might be expected to be more popular such as Italy and France. Wherever you're flying, Direct Travel Insurance offers with excellent benefits.

Heathrow is the UK's busiest airport, with nearly 69 million passengers - which is more than Britain's total population of 62 million. Gatwick handles only half as many, according to the snapshot graphic.

For delays, Thomas Cook Airlines Ltd tops the lists with planes delayed 22 minutes on average. British Airways and Ryanair, by comparison, are both closer to 11 minutes. It is useful to remember that holiday insurance can cover significant delays and cancellations as well as belongings and medical emergencies.

A 'Did You Know?' section explains how humans will never be able to fly, because even with strapped-on wings our hearts aren't strong enough for all the flapping we'd need!

The infographic is packed with lots of facts and figures about flying and could be helpful for schools, travel agents and even pub quiz teams.
