Chemotherapy Patients Receive Welcomed Distraction During Treatment With New iPads
Local Non-Profit Group, Rock Pink, Makes Large Donation to Florida Hospital Cancer Institute
(firmenpresse) - ORLANDO, FL -- (Marketwire) -- 02/29/12 -- Chemotherapy patients at the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute (FHCI) recently received a generous and entertaining gift to ease their minds during treatment as Rock Pink, a local breast health awareness organization, donated 30 32GB Apple iPads to the treatment floor.
"I think this donation is just great and really practical. It will really benefit the patients who come here week after week because there is a lot of downtime," said Kathleen Reid, a breast cancer patient. "My friends are all playing that 'Words with Friends' game so I'm excited to be able to play that now!"
The 32GB iPads come fully loaded with music and stream many forms of entertainment, including songs from local artists in support of Rock Pink. The organization will update and service the iPads regularly.
"We are so pleased to expand our partnership with FHCI with the inclusion of this, our largest single installment to-date of the Rock Pink Music and Humanity Project™," said Rock Pink President David Sackett. "The positive responses we have received from patients who have had the opportunity to use our devices solidifies the importance of providing distractions to those patients undergoing difficult cancer treatments."
In addition to the generous iPad donation, Rock Pink also became the first non-profit to join Harriett's Founding 100, donating $10,000 to benefit Eden: The Spa for Image Discovery at FHCI. The Spa focuses on providing therapeutic treatments, as well as wigs and mastectomy garments, to those suffering from cancer and was founded on a charitable gift from philanthropist Harriett Lake. Harriett's Founding 100 is a giving circle of 100 members total. Currently, Harriett's Founding 100 consists of 20 individuals and organizations whose generosity provides for uninsured or underinsured patients in the spa.
"It is a difficult time for our patients who are undergoing chemotherapy, so providing ease of mind during treatment and supporting their self image through Eden Spa is incredibly important," said Dr. Decker, medical director of FHCI. "These gifts serve as a wonderful reminder to keep our patients' spirits up in these times of need. We and the patients are extremely grateful for the generosity."
Rock Pink is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that is on a mission to bring music and humanity together center stage while raising breast health awareness and supporting local breast cancer programs. Organizations like Libby's Legacy, the Young Survival Coalition, Florida Hospital's Eden Spa, and MD Anderson - Orlando are among those who have received financial and volunteer support from Rock Pink. Rock Pink has reached out to hundreds of thousands of Central Floridians, spreading the message "Get to Know Your Breasts™" through musical events, social gatherings and partnerships with local organizations and media.
