Canada's Labour Minister Attends the CCOHS Council of Governors Dinner Reception
(firmenpresse) - HAMILTON, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 03/06/12 -- Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, attended the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) Council of Governors dinner reception, and discussed the Centre's priorities, work plans and activities.
"I would like to thank the Centre for their hard work and for providing an opportunity to engage in a discussion with Council members on important occupational health and safety issues. I would also like to show my appreciation for the Centre's dedication in keeping Canadians informed about occupational health and safety issues," said Minister Raitt. "We are building on strong collaboration as we continue to promote safe and healthy workplaces for Canadians."
Established in 1978, the CCOHS is governed by a tripartite council representing governments, workers and employers. Its mandate is to promote the total well-being-physical, psychosocial and mental health-of working Canadians by providing information, training, education, management systems and solutions that support health, safety and wellness programs.
The Labour Program develops, administers and enforces workplace legislation and regulations, including the Employment Equity Act and the Canada Labour Code, which covers industrial relations, health and safety and employment standards. These laws apply to federally regulated workers and employers.
