Developer Contests to Offer $600 in Cash Prizes and Free Testing Tool
QASymphony to Sponsor Testing Contest in Partnership With 99tests
(firmenpresse) - DUBLIN, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/07/12 -- QASymphony (), a developer of SaaS-based software testing tools, announced it has teamed up with 99tests (), a crowdsourcing platform for testing software applications, to sponsor two contests to run in March with plans to award $600 in total cash prizes. Entries will be accepted at 99tests.com. (You must register as a tester.)
Open to any interested tester, the objective of the contest is for testers to search for defects on pre-selected public websites in jazz and bluegrass music as well as city government sites of Austin, New York, San Francisco and Chicago.
Participants must discover and report using the qTrace tool by QASymphony. qTrace is a software defect documentation and reporting tool that captures and records the tester's every movement, screen and system information as the tester navigates through the application annotating notes while testing.
All contestants who submit defects using qTrace will be given a full year license to qTrace.
Based on validated defects, the contestants with the highest number of severity defects submitted wins. Each validated bug will be prioritized and weighed against the criticality of fixing it. Evaluation of ranking will be done using the 99tests testing infrastructure and bug tracking system.
There will be 2 contests each with a time limit of 48 hours.

Enter early. Each contest will close after a maximum of 50 entrants. Validation will be performed by QASymphony staff within 12 hours of contest close. Defects discovered will be shared with the associated webmasters.
Most recently QASymphony announced qTrace, a defect capture and reporting tool for bug discovery that records all steps, screens, and system information associated with a defect along with out-of-the-box integration enabling the user to submit the defect trace to bug trackers. Early users found that qTrace decreases defect capture time by 30-50% and decreases fix time by 10-30%.
