Pohjola's National Workplace Safety Award to SRV Group Plc
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
Pohjola Insurance Ltd gave its first-ever National Workplace Safety Award to SRV
Group Plc which excels in enhancing occupational safety in the construction
industry on a long-term basis.
The winner of Pohjola's National Workplace Safety Award 2012 is SRV Group Plc in
recognition of its long-term and multifaceted efforts to enhance occupational
safety both at company level and nationwide.
Pohjola wants to encourage companies to improve their safety culture and to
manage risks and work safely on a daily basis.
- At SRV, safety is no lip service. From the CEO to its suppliers, the company
has understood its role thoroughly, says Antti Nyrhinen from Pohjola Insurance
Ltd's Risk Management Centre of Excellence.
Safety - everyone's right and duty
Pohjola Insurance and SRV have for decades been cooperating in enhancing
occupational safety.
They have created, for example, a Viisari information package which is given to
all construction-site workers during their job induction. Furthermore, almost
all SRV sites have a special safety team which meets every three months.
- This is genuine, extensive cooperation, considering that the safety team
comprises members representing not only us and Pohjola but also the authorities
and other stakeholder groups. Enhancing risk management and occupational safety
is always based on continuous cooperation between various stakeholder groups,
states Jari Korpisaari, Security and Safety Manager, SRV.
Pohjola's experts are also involved in the Raksakymppi model that is
systematically used to develop occupational-safety management in the
construction sector from the main contractor to subcontractors.
Management of risks - a win-win situation for all parties
- The best prize in the construction sector is a zero incidence of accidents.
Still, we are as delighted with this Award as bears are delighted with honey.
The Award proves that our efforts to enhance occupational safety have been both
successful and transparent, states Korpisaari.
The first-ever National Workplace Safety Award, worth 3,000 euros, was presented
at Pohjola's Risk Management Forum on 8 March. This year Pohjola will also give
19 Regional Workplace Safety Awards, each worth 2,000 euros.
