UK Drought Causes Problems for Motorcyclists Warns Swinton

(firmenpresse) - MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 03/12/12 -- With news that the Government has officially declared that the South East of England is facing a water shortage, Swinton, the UK's leading retailer, is urging riders to be wary of the increasing numbers of large cracks on the roads.

Roads need to contain a certain level of moisture in order to remain roadworthy for drivers. If there is little of no moisture in the soil, the soil beneath the road will shrink and cause the tarmac to crack. If left untreated, these cracks can result in large potholes appearing on roads, which are particularly dangerous for motorcyclists.

Riders who fail to spot and avoid potholes can easily lose control of their bike which can then lead to road accidents. Not only that, significant damage to motorcycle wheels can be caused as a result, and are often pricey to fix.

It's important for motorcyclists to look out for any large cracks or potholes in the road and to report them to the relevant council so that they can ensure road repairs are carried out as soon as possible.
