2012 Olympics Set to Boost Sports Betting, Say Belle Rock Entertainment

In a study carried out by the Sports Industry Research Centre (SIRC) at Sheffield Hallam University, the Olympic Games were found to be just one of the contributing factors, with easier access to sports betting via mobile and internet technologies, and the growing number of sites offering free bets also a factor.
Sports fans are currently placing bets on which country they think will take home the most gold medals. The US is the current favourite, with odds of 4/7, with China close behind with odds of 11/8. If you want to bet on the UK itself taking the top spot on the gold medal winner's table, current odds are set on par with Russia at 33/1. Some are even betting on the chances of the famous Olympic torch being dropped somewhere along the route of its UK tour, with odds of 4/11.
The London Olympics isn't the only major event exciting sports betting fans this year. Football betting is also set to increase, with bookmakers already taking bets for the UEFA European Football Championships taking place in July in Poland and the Ukraine. It's no surprise that World Cup Winners Spain are the current favourites to win, with odds of 9/4. But with Germany storming through the qualifying stages with a plus-27 goal difference, they're also a hot favourite with the bookies, with odds of 3/1, followed by Holland at 7/1 and England at 8/1.
Over in the US, sports betting is also hotting up for the annual Major League Baseball World Series in October. The previous year's winner is always an early favourite, but odds have slipped on last year's champions the St. Louis Cardinals to 20/1. Current favourites, thanks to their signing of Red Sox closer Vance Worley for a cool $50 million, are the Philadelphia Phillies, with odds of 5/1.
