SARA Solution Running on HP Hardware Offers Hospitals New Capability for Linking Alerts From Point-of-Care Systems to Clinicians' Mobile Devices

(firmenpresse) - CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/15/12 -- today announced it is bringing the solution to hospitals in North America with help from HP. With SARA's real-time monitoring, alerting and notification tools, hospital clinicians can sharpen their focus on patient care and satisfaction.

SARA is an automated alerting system and awareness engine that sends voice and text alerts via phones, pagers, emails, computer screens, PA systems, etc. With SARA's wireless sensor network, integration tools and mass notification capabilities in a single platform, a hospital will know exactly what's happening in and around its facilities to ensure patient safety and security.

The SARA situational awareness solution for hospitals is engineered to run on and . In addition to the alarm management and alerting platform that integrates with such point-of-care systems as nurse call, telemetry and smart beds (such as Stryker wireless iBed), this SARA solution set includes SARA's Staff Assignments Module, a new standardized tool that links alerts to clinicians' mobile devices.

"In clinical environments where multiple systems require alarm management, clinicians need to know how to configure alerting on each platform," explains Suri Raman, director of business development for Status Solutions. "Managing alerts on multiple systems can lead to confusion, inefficiencies and distractions that detract from patient care, ultimately leading to alarm fatigue. SARA's Staff Assignments module provides hospitals with a standardized platform for intelligently assigning point-of-care alerts to communication end points for greater efficiency."

The solution also features SARA's eMessenger, which enhances the centralization of alerts while extending the ability to communicate to many HP touchscreen PCs and tablets throughout a hospital. Browser-based, pop-up alerts can contain information that is either emergency or non-emergency related. "One important application for SARA's eMessenger involves code centralization, enabling staff assigned to the operating rooms to receive automatic notifications when certain codes occur," notes Raman.

"Combining Status Solutions' situational awareness software with HP's computing technologies will offer hospitals a powerful tool to help them take better care of patients and increase their quality ratings," explains Mike MacLeod, president of Status Solutions. "With SARA, acute care clinicians can improve their response to patient alerts and better manage their workload, reducing alarm fatigue and increasing efficiencies in both the delivery of care as well as hospital administration including Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements."

"The healthcare industry continues to undergo systemic changes, but hospitals that want to succeed by delivering optimal care while also controlling costs recognize the role technology can play in helping them achieve their missions," says Chris Mertens, vice president, Americas Healthcare Practice, Personal Systems Group, HP. "By offering SARA on HP hardware, we are providing the acute care market a valuable solution set for improving patient care and administrative efficiencies."
