K-supermarket Seilori introduces electronic price labels

K-supermarket Seilori in Espoo is a pioneering K-food store as it is the first
one to introduce electronic price labels on its shelves.
According to IT Manager Outi Mäkinen of Kesko Food, K-supermarket Seilori is
testing electronic price labels. During the test, both customers and the store
will gain experience of the performance of the system. The store will be testing
several different price labels at the same time to gain extensive experience of
the performance of different price labels.
K-retailer Heimo Välinen is looking forward to the introduction of electronic
price labels.
- Electronic price labels will improve customer service, because they are clear
and the information is always correct. From the store's point of view,
operations will improve because paper labels will no longer be needed, says
Välinen.
Another advantage of electronic price labels is that they are stationary and the
product prices are visible on a large digital display. In addition to price,
other product information can be displayed, such as product origin, or if the
product is gluten free, lactose free, a Pirkka product or an organic product.
Prices wirelessly updated to the shelves
Electronic price labels in K-supermarket Seilori use wireless transmission of
product price information from the POS system to the electronic labels on the
shelves.
- The product price is updated into the POS system from which it is
automatically transmitted to the electronic price labels on the shelves. This
means that the price is always the same in the price label and the POS system.
If the price is changed, it is simultaneously updated to the labels on the
shelves and no paper labels need to be made, says Outi Mäkinen.
Paper price labels will not disappear completely from the store as they will
continue to be used to display campaign prices, for example. The supplier of the
electronic price label system of K-supermarket Seilori is Wincor Nixdorf.
