Unprecedented Federal Investments in Energy Efficiency Will Create Jobs and Reduce Deficit
NAESCO Releases Statement on the Impact of Energy Efficiency on Jobs and Deficit Reduction in Advance of 7th Annual Federal Workshop

(firmenpresse) - WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwire) -- 03/19/12 -- On Thursday, March 22, high level leaders in the clean energy economy will gather at the Pepco Building in D.C. to discuss emerging opportunities for the energy efficiency industry at the federal level that will create jobs and decrease the deficit. The workshop, hosted by the National Association of Energy Service Companies (NAESCO), provides a forum for private and public sector representatives to talk candidly about the evolving role of energy efficiency in the federal marketplace.
The Federal Government is currently making unprecedented investments in energy upgrades to buildings. The President recently announced nearly $4 billion in combined federal and private sector energy upgrades to buildings over the next 2 years. Additionally, the President issued a memorandum to more effectively leverage the capabilities of third party providers like ESCOs to generate energy and dollar savings at federal facilities.
Upgrading the energy efficiency of America's buildings is one of the fastest, easiest, and cheapest ways to save money, cut down on harmful pollution, and produce good jobs right now. Investments in building retrofits and energy efficiency can make a real difference in the American economy, by creating immediate and good paying jobs, reducing both energy costs and consumption, and redirecting the monies saved to growing our industries.
NAESCO members are well aware of the economic benefits of energy efficiency. The industry is one of the only industries to grow during the recession, hiring people at a time when unemployment seems stubbornly stuck at levels not seen since the early 1980s. Across the country, the energy service industry has created roughly 300,000 jobs, provided $50 billion in energy savings and $25 billion in public infrastructure improvements since 1990.
The NAESCO workshop provides a platform for discussion on how to best leverage federal funds to make the biggest economic impact. Conference attendees include high level representatives from the civilian agencies and defense branches as well as prominent NAESCO ESCO, utility and financial institution members.
