WABCO Presents New Generation of Electronically Controlled Air Suspension Technology for Trucks and Buses to Reduce Fuel Costs and Boost Efficiency

ID: 127011

(firmenpresse) - BRUSSELS, BELGIUM and LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY -- (Marketwire) -- 03/21/12 -- WABCO Holdings Inc. (NYSE: WBC) (), a global technology leader and tier-one supplier to the commercial vehicle industry, is showcasing the North American version of its industry-first electronically controlled air suspension (ECAS) technology at the 2012 Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) through March 24. WABCO's ECAS technology reduces fuel costs for trucks and buses while helping to make vehicles more efficient and environmentally friendly.

Since WABCO introduced the industry's first ECAS technology in 1986, the company has sold more than three million systems worldwide.

WABCO's ECAS maximizes the traction performance of 6x2 trucks while minimizing tire wear. It also saves fuel by lowering the vehicle's chassis and lifting axles, which helps reduce the vehicle's aerodynamic and rolling resistance. Fleets in North America can specify 6x2 trucks, instead of more expensive and heavier 6x4 trucks, leading to further fuel savings.

"We are proud to present our breakthrough in electronically controlled air suspension technology at MATS 2012, marking more than 25 years of technology leadership in ECAS systems," said Nikhil Varty, Vice President, Americas. "WABCO's new generation of ECAS improves vehicle safety and driver effectiveness, boosts fuel efficiency and reduces environmental impact. Our passion is to continue meeting the rising standards of truck and bus makers in North America and internationally."

WABCO's ECAS increases vehicle safety by maintaining the vehicle parallel to the road surface at a pre-set level. This means optimal load protection and more stable vehicle operation. ECAS offers an innovative range of features such as axle load monitoring, a memory function that returns the vehicle to its original level after (un)loading, and a hand-held remote control that allows drivers to adjust the vehicle's height while inside or outside the cab.

In North America, WABCO furnishes ECAS systems mainly to manufacturers of buses and coaches.

WABCO Breakthroughs

As the technology leader in the global commercial vehicle industry, WABCO's breakthroughs include, among other vehicle safety and efficiency technologies, the first autonomous emergency braking system (AEBS), the first collision mitigation system (CMS) with active braking, and the first electronic stability control (ESC) system. WABCO also pioneered the industry's first electronic braking system (EBS), the first electronically controlled air suspension (ECAS), the first automated manual transmission (AMT) system, the first anti-lock braking system (ABS), and the first high performance single-piston air disc brakes.

Founded in the United States in 1869 as Westinghouse Air Brake Company, WABCO is a U.S. public company listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
