National exposure for Montreal Water Object Designer

(firmenpresse) - MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 03/22/12 -- Editors Note: There are 3 photos associated with this press release.

Co-founded four years ago by the brother-sister tandem of Manuel and Noemie Desrochers, Aquaovo has gained national and international acclaim for the quality and timeless aesthetic appeal of its eco-oriented filtration systems, carafes, and thermal water containers. Already a favourite in homes and trendy establishments throughout Quebec, as well as with some Hollywood celebrities, Aquaovo's signature egg-shaped ceramic OVOPUR units have graced the sets of popular TV shows and was placed on the set of the upcoming Will Smith blockbuster film, Men in Black 3.

"It's true we've been very successful in Quebec, and we're gaining traction in the US, Asia, and France," explains Noemie. "In fact, that growth prompted our last-minute decision to audition for The Dragon's Den. I was leaving for China the next morning but the opportunity to go toe-to-toe with some of Canada's sharpest business people was too good to pass up. Plus, Vince and I love the show so, really, it was a no-brainer."

Vince is Vincent Purino, Noemie's husband and the company's President. "We're almost at the five-year mark and we're definitely on the right track. The logical next step for us now that we've demonstrated our quality and received awards is to take things to the next level," notes Purino. "It was surreal to be facing off against five of Canada's most famous multimillionaires, people we've watched and admired for years. But at the same time, it felt right. We're not a start-up trying to prove we have a good idea; we're successful entrepreneurs looking for an equity infusion so we can mass-market products whose value is firmly established."

Despite a thorough grilling, the Aquaovo team was well prepared and enjoyed the experience. "Sure. It was difficult to be facing people with so much experience," admits Noemie. "But you have to do that on a daily basis when you're marketing your product. Besides...this was fun."

Noemie's brother, Manuel, Aquaovo's Chief of Design, points out the importance of such an opportunity. "Noemie and I come from a family of entrepreneurs. We know that just being around success has value. This was a chance to work with top business leaders while showcasing our brand on a national stage. Ultimately, we were hoping for a workable equity deal while allowing the rest of Canada to discover Montreal's favourite egg!"

The judges were impressed by Aquaovo's excellent track record and three judges indicated they'd be willing to look at developing an equity arrangement. Ultimately, Jim Treliving's offer made the most sense. After several months of due diligence and negotiations, both sides decided to walk away from the original deal.

"We were thrilled to discuss a potential deal with Jim but the numbers didn't add up for him or for us," explains Vince. "We don't regret the experience, though. The exposure and the acceptance that come from having three 'Dragons' vie for our business will pay us dividends. This is a major win for Aquaovo and will support our national expansion."

The Aquaovo episode aired Wed night, March 21st on CBC-TV. The Dragon's Den allows aspiring entrepreneurs to pitch their business concepts and products to a panel of Canadian business moguls who then decide whether or not to invest their own time and money into the opportunity. The show features Jim Treliving, Kevin O'Leary, Arlene Dickinson, Robert Herjavec, and Bruce Croxon. For more information and local air times, go to .
