The 2012 Youth Expo Experience Takes Place April 13-15 at the OC Fair & Event Center
Fun for the Whole Family With Free Admission
(firmenpresse) - COSTA MESA, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/22/12 -- The OC Fair & Event Center (OCFEC) is proud to announce the 32nd year of , an annual family event that celebrates the talents of local youth, April 13-15, 2012. This year's theme is "Ewe Rock." Hours are Friday, April 13 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, April 14-15 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is free all three days and many activities are free of charge. Parking is $5 on Saturday and Sunday and Friday is Field Trip Day, when schools are encouraged to attend as a group. For more information, visit .
New this year is the , which encourages students to consider careers in these professional fields. Held every day of Youth Expo, the STEM & DMA Showcase will include displays and exhibits, in addition to a robotics competition, an alternative fuel exhibit, guest speakers and competitive displays.
The STEM & DMA Showcase will join the returning , a live competition that pits student teams against each other to see who are this year's best young designers and builders.
Here are more featured events and competitions for the family-friendly weekend:
Local students show off their talents in drawing, creative writing, woodworking, science, social studies, computer graphics, photography and LEGO™ masterpieces.
This annual competition encourages students to explore physical and life sciences. Many of the top competitors will move on to compete in the California State Science Fair, Broadcom MASTERS competition and the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair.
Local youth and teens are judged on their abilities to raise small livestock, their understanding of animal and veterinary sciences, and their display projects on community service, aerospace, entomology, electricity and more
This art showcase just for Girl Scout Seniors presents an opportunity to share their vision of the contest theme of "Toward an Ideal World for Girls" Create It!
Little thumbs compete to see who can grow the best fruits, vegetables and flowers. Youth are invited to submit their entries on Friday, April 13 from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Centennial Farm.
Youth Expo visitors won't go hungry with gourmet food truck fare from Baconmania, Bakery Truck, ChunkNChip, Dos Chinos, Fresh Fries, Front Porch Pops, Piaggio On Wheels, Taco Maria, The Lime Truck, Tornado Potato and Waffles de Liege (Saturday and Sunday only, food trucks vary each day). Visitors can also grab a snack, drink or lunch from the food booths organized and supported by local youth groups.
Other family-friendly activities include the Centennial Farm gardens and animal pens, cow milking and oxen team demonstrations, hands-on arts and crafts, bubble rollers and other various amusements, hay rides, Bug Barn, "Thank a Farmer Magic Show," Gale Webb's Extreme Sports & Air Show, Wild Science hands-on exhibits, blacksmith and leather-making demos, worm farm, butter-making demos, a play zone for young children and free family entertainment all day.
The Youth Expo Experience 2012 is sponsored by ScholarShare College Savings Plan, Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatic Center and YMCA of Orange County and is underwritten by the OC Fair & Event Center.
