Most up-to-date model of the Titanic wreck
In a global exclusive, ixtract developed the currently most up-to-date model of the Titanic wreck for National Geographic magazine and RMS Titanic, Inc
(firmenpresse) - The remarkable graphic will appear in the print editions of the National Geographic magazine around the world, on its website (ngm.com) and as a special 3D feature in the magazine’s April edition for iPad. It is the most up-to-date realistic 3D visualization of most likely the most famous ship wreck in the world, which lies on the North Atlantic sea bed, approximately 4000 meters beneath the ocean. National Geographic and RMS Titanic, Inc. thus placed great importance on a model true to the original which also takes into account the advanced deterioration of the wreckage as precisely as possible. In order to meet the high requirements regarding scientific accuracy, the infographic experts at ixtract did not just work with the most up-to-date underwater photographs - thousands of individual shots - but also included the original construction plans of the Ship in the design. In doing so, a unique and precise model came into being within just three weeks of production time in around 400 hours. The model's authenticity was confirmed by scientists and participants in expeditions and this can even be seen online from all directions.
Stefan Fichtel, the Managing Director and Creative Director at ixtract, views the project as exceptionally positive and is pleased about the evidence of trust which the renowned geographical and scientific magazine places in his young agency: "We very much appreciate that one of the top institutions of international scientific journalism such as National Geographic magazine entrusted us with a task as complex as this. I am even more pleased that we were able to produce a result that went beyond all expectations and which will surely bring the readers of the electronic magazine in particular much enjoyment".
The ixtract Titanic model can be seen in the April edition of the National Geographic magazine and at http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/digitaleditions.html, where you can also subscribe to the iPad app.
Also, the ixtract Titanic model will be on display after April 15th in Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition in museums around the world and on rmstitanic.net . For a full list of cities where this model and more exclusive content from Expedition 2010 will be on display, visit www.rmstitanic.net.
