Pöyry awarded EUR 1.4 million flood protection project in the Czech Republic

Pöyry has been awarded a technical consulting services contract by the State
River Board Corporation of the Czech Republic in an important flood protection
project for the city Jablonec nad Nisou in Northern Bohemia. Pöyry's services,
totalling EUR 1.4 million, will be provided by March 2011.
Pöyry won a public tender for the work as leader of a consortium with two Czech
companies. The services required by the client consist of preparation and
development of final design, building permit documentation, detail designs and
tender documents required for the client's tendering procedures.
Pöyry's involvement in the project includes upgrading of the existing dam and
its ancillary structures. The total investment cost of this project is approx.
EUR 16 million.
Jablonec nad Nisou has a population of about 46 000 and a large number of
industrial plants. Its present flood protection system relies on an existing,
some 100-year-old dam, which can no longer provide safe and reliable protection
against extreme floods.
