(firmenpresse) - Opus – German Stage Award
This year, the Opus goes to U2’s ‘360° Tour’ and ‘Król Roger’ opera production.
The winners of this year’s Opus could hardly be more different. Nevertheless, they have one thing in common – the will to employ innovative concepts, technologies and approaches in the creation of stage productions. And the two award winning productions show clearly just how different stage productions can be. They also show that an interesting stage production is by no means a question of money. On the contrary, the key is good ideas for creating something new using existing means, and to make the best possible use of technology and the setting for the production.
The 360° Tour of Ireland’s U2 rock group surpasses everything that has been done before in this field. For the technical aspects of the stage production, currently the biggest of its kind, Mark Fisher and his team receive an Opus in the Technical Realisation category. Not only is the stage structure imposing, the use of moving LED screens also sets new standards.
In the Stage Design category, Prof. Raimund Bauer receives an Opus for his design of the stage for the ‘Król Roger’ opera, a joint production of the Bregenz Festival and the Gran Liceu Opera House in Barcelona. Very simple but with a very effective impact thanks to the combination of lighting and choreography, the stage takes the form of an arena and perfectly underscores the discord of the title figure and the characterisation.
Opus – German Stage Award – has been given annually for productions from the world of theatre, opera, classical music, rock and pop since 2002. This year, a jury of experts from business, the associations, Messe Frankfurt and the leading trade publications awarded Opus for outstanding productions in the categories ‘Technical Realisation’ and ‘Stage Design’.
Opus is sponsored by the Professional Lighting & Sound Association of Germany (Verband für Licht-, Ton- und Veranstaltungstechnik - VPLT), the European Association of Event Centres (Europäischer Verband der Veranstaltungs-Centren - EVVC), the German Theatre Technology Association (Deutsche Theatertechnische Gesellschaft – DTHG) and Messe Frankfurt GmbH.
Sinus – Systems Integration Award
Sinus – Systems Integration Award is presented for the extraordinary and creative use of integration and media technology. The award-winning projects are chosen from the fields of museums, education or ‘edutainment’, events and entertainment. In line with the professional areas of application, the Award is given in the categories Entertain¬ment, Business, Venue and Information. As a rule, Sinus is awarded to several people involved in a project because several disciplines, from planning to realisation, are involved in such constructions.
Sinus has a real treat in store in the Entertainment category: the culinary school “Table D’Or” of renowned German chef, Johann Lafer, has been selected for the award as an example of the creative use of media technology and systems integration. Johann Lafer was not only the customer but also played an active role in the planning and implementation of the various technical facilities. He will accept the award personally. Additionally, the people and companies involved in the product will also receive a Sinus. They are AV Integrator Walter Jünkering, Bernd Klein (CIBEK Technology + trading GmbH) and Jörg Gehles as architect and lighting planner.
Communicating knowledge via multi-media and interactive devices is gaining popularity in museums and exhibitions. In the Information category, the Sinus is awarded to exhibitions and ‘edutainment’ areas that make use of modern technology to provide a completely new museum experience. This year, the award in this category goes to Michael Staats of Amptown Systems Company for Klimahaus® Bremerhaven 8° Ost exhibition hall.
An unparalleled project and the people behind it are to be honoured with a Sinus in the Venue category. The Formula 1 race track in Abu Dhabi presented a whole new set of challenges. The scope and complexity of the project alone are extraordinary. A Sinus Award goes to Romano Hammer, ITEC and Günther Hiss, PKE Electronics, for the realisation of a PA system suitable for transmitting commentary and music to all places along the track.
The following people and companies have been selected for a Sinus in the Business category for their work on this project ‘Children’s World’ project at the Audi Forum Ingolstadt:
-Wolfgang Vogt, Head of IT Planning, Multimedia – Audi AG
-Pirmin Anselmann, Initiator, Promoter, Project Manager – Audi AG
-Achim Hannemann, Screen New Technologies
The ‘Children’s World’ area is a communication concept developed by Audi AG especially for children and uses playful, entertaining and informative aids to introduce this young target to automobile technology.
Sinus is an honorary award – the winners are presented with a certificate and a trophy. A jury selected by the Awards Committee nominates the candidates and then chooses the winners by acclamation in a private meeting. Both the Awards Committee and jury are composed of representatives of the Professional Lighting & Sound Association of Germany (VPLT) and the European Association of Event Centres (EVVC), as well as experts, representatives of the trade press and Messe Frankfurt.
