(firmenpresse) - SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN -- (Marketwire) -- 03/30/12 -- The Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification and Member of Parliament for Blackstrap, today highlighted the Harper Government's commitment to supporting jobs and economic opportunities across Canada as a part of the Economic Action Plan 2012.

"Our Government's top priority is creating jobs and long-term prosperity for Canadians," said Minister Yelich. "The Economic Action Plan 2012 we introduced yesterday will support job creation and create economic opportunities by better utilizing Canada's workforce and making Canada's labour market more adaptable."

Canada's well-trained and highly educated workforce is one of our key advantages in competing and succeeding in the global economy. However, too often barriers or disincentives discourage workforce participation.

The Economic Action Plan 2012 proposes measures to strengthen incentives for employment and skills training, support a more efficient Employment Insurance program, expand opportunities for Aboriginal peoples to fully participate in the economy, and build a fast and flexible economic immigration system.

"Our Government is committed to creating employment opportunities for youth, aboriginals, newcomers and every single Canadian trying to find work," said Minister Yelich. "By increasing our investments in skills training and by making our Government's programs more efficient, we will continue to respect our commitment."

Economic Action Plan 2012 takes important steps to address the challenges and help take advantage of the opportunities of the global economy, while ensuring sustainable social programs and sound public finances for future generations.
