science communications wins Interactive Media Award in New York
Website of agency in Zurich, Switzerland, earns the ‘Best in Class’ award in the category ‘Communications’
(firmenpresse) - Zurich-based public relations and marketing agency science communications GmbH received the Best in Class award, the highest honor bestowed by the Interactive Media Awards in New York, for its website www.science-communications.ch/en.
The awards from the Interactive Media Council Inc. (IMC) recognize excellence in web design from countries around the globe. The jury is made up of prominent professionals working in roles relating to all aspects of web design, development and programming. In order to win an award the website must excel in the following criteria: design, content, feature functionality, usability and standards compliance. The Best in Class award represents the very best in planning, execution and overall professionalism.
Science communications’ entry received 98 points for ‘Content’ and a perfect score of 100 points for Feature Functionality. The key element of the website is an unusually elaborate portfolio of reference projects arranged in five different categories under the ‘Work’ menu, the first item in the navigation. Visitors are able to see the full spectrum of corporate communications at a glance. People contacting a communications agency for the first time are usually seeking expert advice on producing just one individual component of the corporate communications mix, for instance a presentation or a website. They are not aware how many components there are, how many they actually need, and what it will take to establish all these elements and make sure they reinforce each other. Successful corporate communications consists of many components working together harmoniously like instruments in an orchestra. Without a score and an experienced conductor, even the best instruments will just make noise and not music.
Eberhard Zangger, founder and managing director of science communications, says: “It’s very difficult to tell prospects that they need more elements in their corporate communications mix, and a concept to boot – it’s easy to scare them off. The key aim of the new website was to get over this insight – without using words!”
Users are able to identify the one element for which they originally sought advice and how it is surrounded and reinforced by additional components of the corporate communications mix. They immediately realize what their company actually needs – and also see the track record of science communications in providing this.
The website concept was developed and all text was written by internal agency staff. Design and programming were conducted by industrial designer Carolina Flores. Agency photos were shot by Rainer Spitzenberger from Munich.
