And while schools like Post are continuing to refine their approach to distance learning, Smith says Almeda University is focusing on increased innovation. "Social media now leads the way -- and universities looking to maintain their online presence must focus on the needs of today's students," he confirms. "Almeda University began a LinkedIn group for its alumni a few years ago. Within three months of its inception, Almeda University had more alumni in its LinkedIn group then the 160-year-old Florida State University."
Smith concludes that an increased emphasis on virtual technology ultimately signals the future of education, and that is committed to a continued leadership role.
