First Personal Injury Helps Victims of Abuse to See the Light at the End of the Tunnel

(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 04/12/12 -- Over the years we are hearing more and more tragic stories of children and other vulnerable people being abused sexually and psychologically by people that they hold in a position of trust. It is unclear whether the increased trend in reported incidents is due to an actual increase in the incidents themselves or whether victims are no longer prepared to suffer in silence and are coming forward to fight back.

There have been a significant number of cases over recent years that have received widespread publicity, one of which was the appalling case in North Wales involving the sexual abuse of a schoolgirl who was touted around the beaches by a paedophile and offered to more than 50 men for sexual purposes. There has also been the 2008 investigation into claims of rape, cruelty and indecent assault at children's homes in Jersey, resulting in charges being bought against previous custodians at Haut la Garenne amongst other homes. These are just a couple of the vast plethora of cases that have sadly reached the front pages of our newspapers and headlines of the news on our television screens.

Appalled by what we have seen, we at First Personal Injury (a member of the Association of ) have tried to help victims of abuse to re-build their lives and secure the treatment that they need. Commonly, it is in fact the very establishments to whom we entrust our children or those of a vulnerable disposition to care for and nurture them that are guilty of the exact opposite. There have been an abundance of cases against schools and care homes as well as the Church and other establishments. It is a little well known fact that in cases of this nature, it is possible for the victim to bring a claim for compensation against the actual establishment itself. Alternatively, even where there is no establishment against whom a claim can be made, an application can be submitted to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority.

Whilst no amount of money can take away the terrible ordeal that some of our clients have suffered, what it does do is to secure the treatment that they need on a private basis to come to terms with what has happened to them and to go on to lead normal and happy lives. Often victims suffer with problems of low self-esteem, anger management, panic and anxiety, depression and isolation, shame and self-hatred. It is fundamental that treatment is received at an early stage to prevent more widescale problems manifesting themselves and unfortunately, with the NHS budget being stretched to breaking point, that treatment is not always available with public funding. With the right treatment we see many clients transform to their former selves and we would like to help others to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
