Minister Raitt Announces Appointment of Mr. Robert Monette to Canada Industrial Relations Board

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 04/16/12 -- Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, announced the appointment of Mr. Robert Monette as a full-time member of the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) representing employers for a three-year term, effective April 10, 2012.

"I am pleased that Mr. Monette has agreed to take on this important role at the CIRB," said Minister Raitt. "His significant experience and knowledge in the field of labour relations will be of tremendous benefit to the Board."

Mr. Monette has specialized in labour law matters since 1972 and has successfully established himself as a proficient lawyer representing key Canadian employers; such as the Canadian National Railway Company, NAV CANADA, and the Maritime Employers Association. He retired from full-time law practice in 2009, and until his appointment, remained actively involved in federal labour matters as a senior counsel in Norton Rose Group.

Mr. Monette has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College Sainte-Croix, and a Bachelor of Law from the Universite de Montreal.

The Canada Industrial Relations Board is an independent, representational, quasi-judicial tribunal. Its mandate is to interpret and to apply the provisions of Part I of the Canada Labour Code that deal with bargaining rights and unfair labour practices.
