The Tri-Screen Connection Announces Web-e-Books(R) and Advanced HTML5 e-Books Publishing and e-Bookstore

ID: 136279

(firmenpresse) - PORTLAND, ME -- (Marketwire) -- 04/18/12 -- The Tri-Screen Connection today announced that it has completed initial development of Web-e-Books®, an operational HTML5 e-publishing solution and e-bookstore for online and offline e-book reading on PC/laptops, tablets, and smartphones. With the Web-e-Books® platform, authors and publishers will recognize the reward of faster, more economical publishing, and consumers will experience an improved reading experience with added memory capabilities.

Designed to satisfy consumer demand for universal, browser-based web applications, each Web-e-Book conforms to current open standards for delivery of e-books via a single format. Web-e-Books® are predesigned to address growth of mobility devices like Apple iPad and Google Android tablets and smartphones, now approaching 500,000 daily, worldwide activations.

Web-e-Books® are formatted in the latest HTML5 web language to overcome the challenge of distributing e-books to a broad range of devices, operating systems, and access methods, thereby allowing automated, seamless access to content from the device of choice -- important in the fragmented mobility marketplace. Web-e-Books® leverage popular browsers to unlock otherwise proprietary native apps and closed content eco-systems.

"Our approach unleashes a significant market opportunity for authors and publishers seeking the broadest possible readership," says Rick Preti, founder of The Tri-Screen Connection. "Authors considering self-publishing may avoid the costly and complex learning curve associated with digital media, and publishers may tap our experience and innovation to brand a digital, commercial publishing service without ground-up development efforts or competitive conflicts."

Preti stated: "In addition to resolving general interoperability, we've designed many original features for easy and convenient browser-based reading -- especially for the consumer who carries multiple devices. For example, our TruPage™ solution utilizes natural page numbering to identify the same page in a book on any device, whether switching from laptop or tablet screens to far smaller smartphone displays. MemoryMark™ is our virtual, automatic bookmark that instantly locates and remembers the last read online page and recalls it on any of your devices. And MellowPage™ offers color background shading in several blushes to soften screen glare."

Web-e-Books® recently implemented Cache-It™, an HTML5-based offline reading service for e-books and short stories. Upon log-in, user-selected Web-e-Books are automatically cached (saved) to allow continuous reading when Internet connections are unavailable -- for example, when leaving a Wi Fi hotspot, or when placing a mobile device in airplane mode. Preti says: "This is an industry first for e-books. We not only make our web-based books compatible for online reading anywhere at any time, but also enable e-book storage on laptops, tablets, and smartphones to seamlessly bridge online and offline reading, a dramatic improvement to e-reading technology."

Cache-It™ stores the Web-e-Book in application cache (memory) designated by the HTML5 standard. This method enables a web page to be displayed offline in HTML5-compatible browsers like Safari, Fire Fox, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Opera, and Android browsers installed on iPads, tablets, various e-readers, and new smartphones. Lead software engineer for Web-e-Books, Jason Farrington says: "Our industry-first implementation of secure, dynamic application caching across multiple browsers enables us to store an expansive volume of customer-owned Web-e-Books on virtually any of their laptops, tablets, or smartphones. So, if you're going to be away from an online connection or in airplane mode, Web-e-Books remain available for continuous reading. This is the biggest step the industry has taken -- from a generation of mixed e-book formats and proprietary e-bookstores to a global Internet format."

Our primary e-book website details our semi-custom, e-book distribution offering and e-publishing programs. Subscribing authors and publishers receive a dedicated virtual carousel (revolving bookshelf), to showcase titles, each supplemented by a semi-custom, mini-website and the Web-e-Books shopping cart. Authors and publishers of single titles to an unlimited collection of works are offered personalized e-book carousels, managed e-book display, pricing, and other options. Web-e-Books® technology is also available as a co-branded or white-label solution to publishers who wish to imprint their own brand.

The Tri-Screen Connection represents a launch pad for broad adoption of new web-based application services. The Tri-Screen Connection answers the call for long-promised technology solutions incorporating the three most commonly used screens: PC, tablet, and smartphone. Its new end-to-end e-publishing solution, Web-e-Books®, is The Tri-Screen Connection's premier example of a technologically rich, readily extensible, and seamlessly integrated web application for digital content distribution.
