Leading personal finance websites Asda Finance offer their top tips travelling with your pet this summer.

There is nothing wrong with taking your pet away with you and if pet owners follow some simple tips they should be well on the way to ensuring that their trip is a success.
An Asda Finance eSurvey carried out recently revealed that 81% of all pet owners say that their pet is 'Very important' to their family(i). Obviously if you are concerned about expensive veterinary bills one final check each pet owner should make is to review their policy to see if they are covered whilst their pet is overseas or on holiday.
Asda Finance top tips for your pet holiday checklist;
Choose the right destination
Is the hotel or accommodation pet friendly? This is very important and you should check and speak to the hotel or accommodation provider to ensure your room is suitable for pets.
Travelling
If you are planning a trip abroad, check with the embassy of your chosen destination what the laws are on taking pets in and out of the country. Use the UK government's Defera website to find out more.
Water
Remember that pets often need more water when travelling. Travelling can be stressful for animals, which will cause them to dehydrate faster, particularly whilst flying.
Food
It is good advice not to feed your pet at least two hours before you travel, as this will help to prevent sickness and unwanted toilet 'accidents' on the journey.
Comfort
When you are travelling with your pet it is common for them to often feel distressed. It is therefore important to ensure that they feel comfortable when travelling. One good way of calming down the animal would be to keep something with your scent on it close to your pet. Failing that, staying close to your pet when travelling should help, too.
