As the Clean Water Act Turns 40 Years Old, Many Corporations Are Voicing Their Support of the Bill, and Their Hope That It Is Strengthened -- Among Them ZeroWater and New Belgium Brewing

(firmenpresse) - BENSALEM, PA -- (Marketwire) -- 05/02/12 -- The conventional wisdom is that corporations dislike government regulation within their respective industries, but there are a few major exceptions to this rule, and one of them is the Clean Water Act. The environmental bill, which turns 40 years old this year, has recently become a topic of scrutiny and conversation, as many companies have voiced their support of the bill, as well as their hope that its tenets are strengthened. Among the companies that have issued in support of the Clean Water Act are ZeroWater and New Belgium Brewing.

ZeroWater, a company that makes home water filtration equipment, is uniquely qualified to comment on the topic of clean water. The company says they believe in the Clean Water Act simply because they believe in the importance of affordable, drinkable, and healthy water supplies. "Reinforcing the Clean Water Act underscores the need for further testing and regulation in our water supplies, and we applaud any effort made in a direction toward cleaner, safer water," reads the press statement. "Recent technological innovations enable filtration performance on par with expensive treatment systems. At ZeroWater, we remain committed to offering advanced water filtration at a reasonable cost."

And ZeroWater is not the only company that applauds the Clean Water Act. In fact, further support for the bill comes from what may seem like an unlikely source -- a beer company. New Belgium Brewing issued a statement that characterizes their support of the Clean Water Act as one based in a sense of environmental responsibility. "At New Belgium Brewing, we not only make Fat Tire Amber Ale and about 15 other beers at one time, we also cultivate our Alternatively Empowered culture. New Belgium Brewing takes pride in being a responsible corporate role model with progressive programs such as employee ownership, open book management, and a commitment to environmental stewardship," reads the company's statement.

New Belgium goes on to say that support of the Clean Water Act reflects the company's "social and environmental ethos," a statement that reinforces own pledge of commitment to clean and affordable water sources.

The Clean Water Act was passed by a bipartisan Congress in 1972, and has radically transformed American waterways and water sources since that time. It is widely considered to be a bedrock of environmental regulation in the United States, both for the way in which it has improved swimming and fishing conditions but also for the way it has increased access to clean and healthy drinking water throughout the country.

Some of the provisions of the Clean Water Act were weakened under previous presidential administrations, but President Obama and the Environmental Protection Agency are expected to revisit the bill, and perhaps refine it, in the weeks to come. This is where much of the renewed interest in the bill is coming from.

Zero Technologies, LLC -- based in Bensalem, PA -- has developed the ZeroWater Filtration System with the mission of delivering the best filtration possible to consumers through its patented 5-stage ion exchange filter which removes virtually all total dissolved solids (TDS). No other filter pitcher or dispenser can make this claim. By removing virtually all TDS, ZeroWater is the only gravity-fed filtration system to match the TDS levels found in Purified Bottled Water.

To date, the breakthrough ZeroWater filter has received certifications by NSF International and the Water Quality Association for the removal of copper, iron, zinc, aluminum, lead, chromium, mercury, chlorine and hydrogen sulfide.
